  A legendary ski resort

Chamonix, the "mecca" of mountain destinations

At 1,035 m above sea level, flanked by the steep faces of Brévent, l'Aiguille du Midi and (the king itself) Mont Blanc, the little town of Chamonix cultivates its image as a chic ski resort, where alpine pleasures mesh harmoniously with the art of living well.

Chamonix, elegant skiing. With the Chamski domaine (Lognan, les Grands Montets, le Tour-Vallorcine, Brévent, Flégère, Planards-Savoy), 100 km of ski runs at altitudes of between 1,050 and 3,295 m, 46 mechanical lifts, the snowpark, the famous Kandahar competition run, glacier off-trail skiing and 200 guides from the Compagnie des Guides (the world's largest and most famous guide operation), Chamonix is also a year-round sports and discovery resort. Mer de glace, Aiguille du Midi, Mont Blanc - adventures as far as the eye can see inspiring emotions in every visitor.

A legendary ski resort

The XXth century had just begun. After the Carlton hotel, opened in 1910, other palaces were built: the Majestic and the Savoy. In 1970, another icon was added to the name of "Savoy" on the roof of the luxurious building: a trident. Indeed, that year, one of the finest jewels of the Savoy hotel chain became a Club Med Village. A new page in the rich history of tourism in Chamonix...

In the country
It is well-known, the Club Med has the genius to settle in the most beautiful places in the world. And, when we are on the spot, it would be damage not to meet the people, the country, the landscapes and all the wonders which are around. First selections.

Hôtels

It all started in 1741. How many tourist sites can claim to know the names of their first visitors? Chamonix can. They were Windhamet and Pocock, two English aristocrats vacationing in the Alps. No doubt in an homage to these British pioneers, the first hotel to open its doors in 1770 was called the Hôtel d'Angleterre, followed in 1800 by the Hôtel de Londres. These first buildings were to both launch and define the local style: tall buildings, white facades, wrought-iron railings and granite-framed bay windows. Still today, when you stroll through the heart of the resort, you need only look up to see that Chamonix has preserved its soul and its elegance.

Tourists and mountaineers. Don't think for one second, however, that over the years the palaces and grand Belle Époque hotels were content to simply offer a prestigious address to a wealthy clientele passing through Chamonix on the way to Deauville or Biarritz depending on the season. From 1786 on, another type of visitor began to make their mark on the reputation of the area: mountaineers.Way before the French Revolution broke out, Michel-Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat, spurred on by the scholar Horace Bénédict de Saussure, revolutionized the mindset of the time by reaching the top of the European world: the mythical Mont Blanc. Nowadays, the Compagnie des Guides established in 1821 maintains the reputation of the Chamonix natives as great mountaineers.

On-going development. First ski slopes in 1893, first railway line in 1901, teleferic to the Glaciers in 1907, first winter Olympic games in 1924, Mont Blanc tunnel in 1965, Chamonix has never ceased, over the years, to open up and develop while still preserving its prestige as a world-class alpine destination. People come to Chamonix to conquer the mountain faces, to race down the snowy slopes, but also to re-energize in an environment that is as inviting as it is prestigious.

4 tridents with a view of Mont-Blanc: the Club Med at its peak

• A ski resort with a world-class reputation.
• International clientele.
• A 4-trident Village, open summer and winter.
• A palace built in 1910.
• Interior design by Jacques Garcia.

Established in a Belle Époque palace only a five-minute walk from the Chamonix town center, with its boutiques and its lively, elegant streets, the Club Med Village has added a number of rooms and can now offer a unique range of mountain vacation experiences, in summer and winter. The rooms, which can be as large as 23 m3, are spread over the three wings of the hotel building: 85 rooms in the Savoy wing (circa 1910), 148 rooms in the Mont Blanc wing (built in 1979) and 64 rooms in the Brévent wing (added in 2004). In perfect harmony with the spirit of the ski resort and the prestige of the Savoy, the entire Village was decorated by Jacques Garcia. Warm contrasting colors, Neo-Baroque style, unbridled imagination, comfort unfettered by times and fashions, reinventing the references of the Alpine style. Cinq Mondes Spa, heated pool in summer and winter and accessed from the inside, surrounded by a sumptuous wooden deck, a huge terrace facing the peaks, a fitness room, two restaurants, the 4 tridents of Chamonix Mont Blanc allow the Village to soar to unparalleled refinement.

This 4-trident Village, now bigger and rounded out by a Club Med Spa, means that a new incomparable destination and the best of Club Med is now available to the European, American and Asian clienteles.
